Digital Painting Creating an Oil Painting in Photoshop

Today I played around with the Pixel Blender set of filters in Photoshop. It was released with CS5 and then scaled back to just the Oil Paint filter in the latest versions. You can create thick lush paint strokes or fine paint strokes. I decided to make these strokes more on the finer side.

Same image, but I decided to use the Spherize filter.

And another fun effect is the Ripple Filter.

Here is a quick technique tutorial on how to create an oil painting from a photo using the Oil Paint and Liquify filters. This video was made with CS5, put you can still do them in the current version of Photoshop. The Oil Paint filter is located on the main Filter drop-down menu.
